Rebuild a role
Same role, same bar, rebuilt as a case instead of a checklist: the actual problem, the real constraints, why the seat is open, what success looks like, the band. The version someone with options keeps reading.
What can't be answered from the document is left as a blank rather than guessed at.
If the blanks can't be filled in, the role isn't ready to post, not because the writing is thin, but because the thinking isn't finished, and no interview process downstream will improve it.
The blanks are worth having even when the answers sit elsewhere. They're a reason to go and get them from whoever has them.
The rebuilt job description answers on first read the questions that normally take until week four. It moves the four-week conversation to minute one. The ones who'd have walked at offer stage walk now, for free. The ones who apply arrive already persuaded.
Every failure the teardown finds is the same one: something done before the thing it depends on exists. The document before the thinking. The questions before the case. The blanks are where that shows up, and filling them is the reordering. Rigour doesn't go anywhere. It moves later, once there's somebody to apply it to. The change of order puts enough in front of people to decide on, so the pool stops being only the willing.
